The Story of Your Davaar

We live in a world today where purchasing is quick, clothes are cheap and fashion moves fast. Most of us don’t see the true effort behind making quality clothing that lasts. Too often, items are discarded when they go out of style or aren’t durable enough. This mindset is unsustainable and has significant environmental impact. It’s also often tied to unethical labour practices in countries where working conditions are poor and workers are paid too little to meet basic living needs.

We chose a different path. All of our manufacturing and supply chain stays within New Zealand, where we can ensure quality, care and fairness at every stage.

A Davaar garment is not made quickly and it is never made in isolation. Its story begins long before yarn is spun or a needle touches wool.

For us, everything starts on the land. Healthy soils grow healthy pasture, which nurtures healthy sheep — and it is the care of these sheep that makes our wool exceptional. Day to day, season to season they are cared for. This steady ongoing work ensures the wool they grow is strong and resilient to become knitwear that lasts.

From fibre selection to finished garment, every stage happens in New Zealand with specialist partners who have spent decades refining their craft. Fibre selection is led by Christchurch based wool expert Don Morrison, who uses advanced scanning technology to identify the best fibres — round, even, resilient fibres that produce a softer strong yarn, reduce pilling and help garments hold their shape over time. Only sheep meeting these exacting standards are selected, shorn separately and their wool carefully set aside for Davaar knitwear.

The wool is washed at WoolWorks in Timaru, spun and dyed at Woolyarns in Wellington and knitted at Otago Knitwear in Dunedin. Every finished garment is handled multiple times, checked and refined. Before it reaches you, each piece returns to Davaar Station for a final inspection.

We use only Davaar wool because we know what goes into perfecting the fibre. The Davaar fibre performs well and lasts. Our jerseys are designed to be loved and worn often over many years, not to follow fleeting trends. When something is made well and cared for properly, its value grows with time. Davaar wool is warm, durable and versatile — and we value owning fewer, better pieces that do the work of many. The price of a Davaar reflects this approach: the time, attention and expertise behind every step and a commitment to making fewer things, better. Each garment is made with intention, designed to be lived in and worn for years to come.

Thank you for taking the time to understand how your Davaar is made and the value behind its price.
